More from my CM Famalam Show collection, this one is from April 13, 2000 and features Talib Kweli in the studio. Some pauses here and there on this 30 minute clip..
Here's a mix of CM Famalam Shows from July, 2001. (This is most likely a few different shows on the same tape). Guests featured include Stretch Armstrong, Tragedy, Lava, Ace Lover, Overbite and E-Rule.
This is a Tony Bones Demo from around 1995 called 'Deep in Your Bones.' You may remember Tony Bones from his joints with Mr. Live. This one is produced by, and featuring, Pharoahe Monch.
Here's a clip from a Halftime Show from 2000 featuring Wayne-O dropping a few verses, and DJ Roc Raida doing some of his battle routines. Peace to DJ Eclipse.
courtesy of your boy Koop. As you can see from the artist list, lot of classic freestyle sessions spanning early-mid 1995 of the Stretch Armstrong Show hosted by Bobbito.
Here's an unreleased treat from MF Doom and Earthquake called 'Checkmate.' This was done in 1994 when I guess Doom was making the transition from KMD to his solo work.
Here's another CM Famalam Show from Koop's collection. This one has a session with the Nuthouse, and a mega freestyle cypher featuring The Juggaknots, Mr Eon, Cage, Copywrite, Camu Tao, among others
This is a dusty CM Famalam Show from my collection, with Bobbito and Lord Sear serving up some breaks and funky joints to celebrate the Rock Steady Crew anniversary for that year.
This tape didn't have a cover with artist listings, and seemed to be the only volume of the freestyle tapes that wasn't surfacing, but Koop came through with the joints. Lot of classic freestyle sessions spanning 1994-1995 of the Stretch Armstrong Show hosted by Bobbito.
Nas' 'Life is Good' is Dropping Tuesday, and getting a good buzz. Peace to DJ Eclipse doing the ill Nas tribute show on the Halftime Show right now. I just ripped up this tape with Bobbito playing a live Nas performance from 1994, pre Illmatic. Sounds like a wild show with 20+ people on stage doing adlibs. At the end you get some turntablism from Allies DJ Klever and DJ Dopey. This is a CM Famalam Showfrom sometime in 2002.
Here's another Wake Up Show from Shaun D aka Wicked's collection, re-upped for those who missed it the first time around. This is one of my favs, with a line-up featuring the Artifacts, Ras Kass, and Organized Konfusion, all in pretty early stages of their careers, July, 1994.
The King Tech Wake Up Show (07/08/1994)
with Sway, King Tech, Kevvy Kev & Joe Quixx
106.1 KMEL San Francisco Friday 10pm-1am
I'm pretty sure this has circulated already, but Koop had the official Fat Beats dub, so I figured I'd rip it. Lot of classic freestyle sessions spanning early-mid 1992 of the Stretch Armstrong Show hosted by Bobbito.
I've got a few more of these volumes on the way.
Mobb Deep dropping a couple of live freestyles on the CM Famalam Show (12-6-2001) to promote the 'Infamy' Lp. Starts out with a little bit of static, but gets better...
Here's another CM Famalam Show from
May 5, 2000 featuring a freestyle session with Del and also a mega-cypher with Wiseguy, Gaston, Rise, AL, Punchline Wordsworth, Benny Blanco, and more
More goodness from the Koop collection. CM Famalam Show from March 4, 1999. This one featuring freestyles from Dilated Peeples and a quick DJ set from DJ Babu.
Ok, so let's start this summer madness off with a bang. This is the first of many from the files of Koop in VA, a Stretch&Bobbito show from the prime of it's run. Guests on this date are Das Efx promoting their 2nd LP 'Straight Up Sewaside' and also Akinyele and Large Professor promoting Akinyele's 'Vagina Diner.' Both of these classic freestyles were featured on the Freestyle Frenzy compilations, but here you get the whole uncut sessions. You'll hear Akinyele responding to the Source article by Kierna Mayo which harshly criticized Akinyele's lyrics on the LP, particularly those on the song 'I luh Huh.' Also you'll hear a little bit of Large Professor dissing Main Source after they split.
Big, Big shouts to my man Koop in VA for sending me a grip of 89.9 goodness. Soon all of these will be ripped and featured on DW, so lots of treats to come...
I'll say it again, anyone with any old school radio shows similar to what you find on DW, I am more than happy to transfer them to MP3's. If you're not local you can mail them through and I'll even cover the shipping costs. I'll have them ripped, copied to data disks, and mailed back to you as soon as possible. Shouts to everyone who has submitted material, it is most appreciated.
Just ran across this posse cut
that's kind of interesting...
"Let's Get it On" with Heavy D, Tupac, Notorious B.I.G. and Grand Puba was featured on a
compilation arranged by co-founder
of Uptown Records, DJ Eddie F.
The LP showcased the new and
upcoming MC's at the time. B.I.G.
and Spunk Bigga (who is not featured
on this version) were pretty much the
only new names on this cut.
This version is a remix done by the Beatnuts, using the acapella from the 12". You'll notice it's the same Johnny Guitar Watson flip the Beatnuts used for Mad Skills' 'Nod Factor,' the only difference being some snare scratches thrown in the mix.(Funny how the 'Skills in 95' instrumental also got leaked on 89.9, even earlier in 1993) This one was a Stretch Armstrong exclusive (as you'll hear on the drop) that ran for a few months in 1994.
This is another combined effort, thanks to Hectic Eclectic for helping out with parts of these rips. This is a Stretch & Bobbitoshow from summer, 1995and it's got quite a line-up. A total of 5 guest appearances.
Just heard about I.G. Off passing and wanted to re-up these joints I posted a while back.
I.G. Off was definitely ill, one of the nicest of the top of the head. Check out The Halftime Show
tonight, DJ Eclipse will be doing a tribute to I.G. Off on the show and also check The Underground Railroad on WBAI this Friday to hear J-Smooth's tribute to I.G. Off
Here is IG Off and Hazardous along with Skam on the Underground Railroad, WBAI.
Sounds like DJ Spinna on the wheels cutting up the breakbeats as well.
I'm pretty sure this is the same freestyle listed on the URR archive page, from 1997.

Here's an unreleased joint from The Ranjahz featuring Jay-Z from 1995. This might have been meant to get put out through their Profile deal, but it never saw an official release. The song's concept is similar to Nas' 'I gave you power,' were they metaphorically personify the bullets in a gun.
The Dirty Waters blog hits the 5 year mark this month. Thanks to everyone, again, for all the support over the years. After 500+ posts I'm running a little short of material but I'm still trying to keep this going. Most of the stuff in the archives has been re-upped through Fileswap, but if anything in particular is missing drop a line and I'll try to get it active again.
Here's a clip of Lil Dap, Agalar, Nikki Bonds, Dappa Don and maybe some other peeps from the Group Home camp freestyling on Stretch & Bobbito's Hot 97 Show in 1998.
Shout out to Will for linking me to Rev Shines soundcloud page. Rev Shines did a bunch of good break mixes a few years back and are now available free on his page. Definitely recommended listening. Shout out to Mr Mass.
I've had the itch to dig something terrible lately. I caught this one on a dig over the weekend, it's kind of a cheese record but I'm digging it right now. The cover makes you immediately want to pass over it, but don't sleep. Peace to all the vinyl spots still surviving, especially those with dollar bins.
Jemini the Gifted One made his debut
late 1994/early 1995 with his song 'Funk Soul Sensation' produced by Organized Konfusion. For his 'Scars and Pain' EP, he also worked with producers Buckwild and Minnesota. This is a promo only 12" remix to 'Funk Soul Sensation' produced by the Grand Leveler Godfather Don. Vibe out to the instrumental on this one, Don uses the very beginning of Les McCann's 'Talk to the People' and mixes that with Johnny Guitar Watson's 'Superman Lover.'Also check Jemini's January 95 appearance on Stretch & Bobbito's show.
I sent these over to Eclipse for the Anniversary show, but I'm not sure if he got to them.
These are two serarate freestyle sessions from Necro on WNYU's Halftime Show from.
This is a cool little party joint I caught back in the day at Fat Beats, maybe around 94/95. This must have had a limited run because I never saw it again after I bought it. It's on a comp called Jackin' 4 Beats, no label, no artist names, no phone numbers, nothing. I have no idea who made it, but it's dope! Always gets a party going..
Here's a rare psych rock joint from Archie Whitewater. This group only had one release on the Cadet Concept Album in 1970, and I just recently found out how rare and pricey the LP is.
I caught this one sealed a while back, buying it strictly on the strength of the bugged out cover. I was pleasantly surprised to find not only a Common sample (Chapter 13) but also a Blahzay Blahzay sample (Danger Remix). The entire LP is pretty incredible aside from the samples. Cadet Concept always had a good roster. This group comes through with a psych rock, jazz mixture and some really nice grooves (horn section, vibes, guitar, drums). Upon further investigation, I found this dude who posted a bunch of unreleased tracks that were shelved from their Cadet label recordings. I've listed this record and a few others on a discogs account I just created (trying them out this time around), so if anyone is interested peep it.
Been a while since I put a mix together...Here's an all vinyl mix of some old/mid school hip hop (mainly 1980-1986). 32 Tracks, 60 minutes. Peace to everyone who helped out with a drop for this mix (DJ Eclipse, DJ Premier, Mr Len, Phil Most Chill, Tim C, Susio Smash and Emskee). Also peace to my boy Jay aka DJ Dirty for mixing this down for me. Feel free to repost, share and spread this mix as you please and enjoy.
Jersey's own Channel Live killing it over Mobb Deep's 'Shook Ones' instrumental on Stretch and Bobbito's show, November 1994. Peace to Aleph, Steve B, Nobs on this one.
*update - apparently google has made changes to blogger domains that redirect non-US readers to web addresses ending with .co.uk, .au, etc. I believe nothing much has changed aside from this redirection, but I'm not certain, so if anyone outside the US checking DW is experiencing limitations, censorship, etc, please let me know...
Also, check my boy (a frequent DW contributer) Greg T's new venture Youzingit.com,
for those of you who may be interested in buying/selling ideas
Here goes another 30 minute clip of a Halftime Show from October 27, 1999 featuring Truck Turner and a pre-blowing up (and even pre getting shot 9 times) 50 Cent. Apparently these two had some on wax beef and were accidentally booked to do the Halftime Show on the same night. There was no conflict in the studio according to DJ Eclipse, but the two were taking shots at each other during their mic time.
I have this instrumental on a few of my WNYU, New York Live tapes. I'm pretty sure this is DJ Mayhem's production, but not positive. I also don't know if this had a track made with an MC on it, was released, or just an instrumental played on the show. They played it during the talk breaks consistently for a few months. If anyone has a clue, feel free to inform. Nice laid back piano groove on this one..
For those who checked WNYU this Wednesday, you know the Halftime crew served up an amazing 14th anniversary show loaded with classic freestyle sessions from the early years of the show. Peace to DJ Eclipse for inviting me up to the show to hang in the studio, and my boy P Original for taking the ride. Peace to DJ Riz, DJ AV, Lyn, DJ Skizz, Pete, Marz, TO Sweet and everyone else I met up there. Was definitely an honor to be involved. (audio in this post)
Halftime 1999 w/Rahzel Here goes an early Halftime Show with Rahzel from sometime in June, 1999. Not sure who the DJ is cutting in the beginning, but you get a nice 30 minutes here with Rahzel and DJ Riz in the mix.
Check out this Interview with DJ Steve Dee spotted here.
Steve Dee is the creator of beat juggling and one of the founding members of the X-Men DJ crew.
Don't know much about these guys, Copywrite, MHz, Spontaneous?, maybe some other people in there as well. Grabbed this nice lengthy session for all you freestyle heads on a Halftime Show from some time around 2000.
"this upcoming Wednesday is our 14th Anniversary of The Halftime Show on 89.1 FM WNYU. Along with the current Halftime crew we will have the original team of DJ Riz & Lynn Gonzalez up as well. Usually we invite a ton of guests for the anniversaries, but being that NEXT year will be the 15th (and crazy big), we decided to do a retrospective and focus on earlier past guests for this year. So for those that weren't around since '98 or want to hear some of those classic sessions again, make sure you tune in this Wednesday (3/7/12) from 10:30pm - 1:00am (maybe longer) to hear some ill freestyles." - DJ Eclipse
Here's a Halftime Show from 2001. I'm having trouble ID'ing the guest MC on this one, so if anyone if familiar let me know. Stay tuned a week from today for the 14th Anniversary Halftime Show on WNYU. Peace to DJ Eclipse.
I was flipping through some old school hip hop videos and landed on this one. If Dr Jeckyll storming in in on a record executive meeting with a dozen gold chain wearing back up dancers isn't great enough, peep how great of an entrance Heavy D and his dancers make at the :30 mark. They jump from completely off screen on and start dancing. Then you get the classic 80's hip hop stunt where you find the oldest looking white guy in a suit and rhyme in his face. The mixer Marley is using is crazy Jurassic. This video is just all around great. This is what's missing in hip hop videos nowadays... back up dancers, matching outfits, typical badass/prankster moves, etc. R.I.P. Heavy D. Not sure if this was his first appearance here in Uptown Crew's 'Uptown Kickin it' in 1986.
Here's another random indie label joint Stretch used to run a lot
circa early 1995. This was also featured on one of those Echo Underground Airplay tapes.Triip with 'Keep it Flowin', her one and only release. One to add to the short list of female MC's. There might be another mix for this track, I prefer this remix here..
As Stretch says, this was one Hefty Bag of a session. Some real deep lyrics. This was from a Stretch & Bobbito Show sometime in the summer of 1995. Because I didn't tape the interview, I actually had no idea who this was until recently when someone on the Philaflava forums mentioned that it was Agent 106. The beat he's on is a beat brought up by G-Bo the Pro. Enjoy...
