Halftime 2-4-2004 (Best of 93-97 w/J-Live)

This is one of the 'best of' theme shows they used to do on Halftime, from 2004. The focus of this show is between the years 1993-1997, and the featured guest is J-Live. Might be a few pauses on there. Not sure if I already uploaded this one, but enjoy..

Terror Green Heavy Jewelz EP

I just got blessed with one of the first records from the up and coming Heavy Jewelz label, run by my man Verge, who you may know through the Philaflava forums and TROY blog. Terror Green was an unsigned artist with a demo that had constant rotation on the Stretch Armstrong Show. '45 stitches' was a funny track about Terror Green messing around with some chick at her place. The chick ends up having a boyfriend, and this dude runs up and stabs Terror, leaving him with 45 stitches. I think it was around 1996 when I first heard Bobbito play this one, and until now, I always assumed it would remain a cassette only treat.

I love the packaging on this, not only does it include artwork by Skore79 and Mark563, but it's pressed on thick green vinyl. Factor in the limited pressing, and this is pretty much tailor made for collectors. I was surprised by how good the sound quality was as well, everything seemed balanced and mastered well, so I assume this was pressed using the original masters. You get the classic '45 Stitches,' and three other unheard tracks from the same Terror Green demo. All tracks produced by DJ Nastee.

Verge took no shorts on this one, and this definitely gets the Dirty Waters seal of approval. I am urging everyone out there to cop this one, as it will definitely be a collector's item that will go up in value. There are a few labels out there pushing to release unearthed demos, but Heavy Jewelz seemingly has them more reasonably priced. Check out Heavy Jewelz and order your copy.

Natural Elements on WNYU

Peace to DJ Eclipse for coming through with the ill Natural Elements tribute show 2 weeks back. The links haven't made their away around yet, but you can check most of the show on the U-Stream, and see freestyles and interviews with most of the group in the studio.

It's incredible how much material these guys made that never was released on vinyl. During the mid 90's the Natural Elements were really productive. According to Charlemagne, the groups producer, most of that material (masters and such) no longer exists, which is a shame. Part of the magic with these guys was the raw creativity in their demos, freestyles, etc.

Here goes some Natural Elements stuff from the Dirty Waters archives..

Peace to El the Sensai for getting AG, TameOne and Sadat X to come through New Brunswick, NJ last night to perform. We got a little bit of video footage for some exclusive Dirty Waters content. Big shout to P Original and DJ Kaos also in the place

Stretch & Bobbito 12-28-1995 (re-up)

Here's a re-up of this Stretch Armstrong Show with Bobbito, Mr Sinista and Rob Swift filling in for Stretch.

This pre-dates the name change from X-men to the X-ecutioners, and even Sinista's name change from Joe Sinista to Mr. Sinista. Sinista & Swift kill it with a mix of old, new and routines. You also got some freestyles from Cracker Jax (promoting "Rhymes like Dimes" 12") and Genesis.

There's a little something for everyone on this one, some turntablism, freestyles, old school, indie label stuff and Bobbito plays a heap of unreleased demos. Peace to my boy Greg T, Stretch, and Bobbito. *Jamo for re-up link

New Artifacts

Re-Up: Stretch & Bobbito 9-21-1995

Bobbito, Lord Sear, and DJ Jab hold it down in Stretch's absence for this show in September, 1995. Bobbito plays a variety of new (at the time) and old school hip hop, as well as a few promos and demos here and there. First two hours of this show- Highlights include Anttex & the click with 'As the World Turns' (early appearance from Havoc of Mobb Deep) and the classic 1994 Wordsworth and Punchline demo produced by the Trackmasters.

*The A-side sounds fine, but the B-Side has an overwhelming ringing throughout, and nothing all that exclusive played, so I'm just putting it up for those who might want to check it. Thanks again to Greg T for this one, and peace to Stretch and Bobbito. peace to Aleph for IDing the Anttex track, and * peace to Jamo for the full tracklist and re-upload..

Re-Up: New York Live 1996 (X-men, Pete Rock, INI)

This is classic New York Live show with Mayhem, Sunset and DJ Riz, doing their thing making you swing and all that. The show was on WNYU 89.1 from around 1993-1997. This one features guests the X-Men (Roc Raida (RIP), Rob Swift, and Mr Sinista), along with some freestyles from Pete Rock and INI. I put clips of this tape in some older posts, but here is the full (pause edited) 60 minutes from what I have from this night. Enjoy!

Re-Up: Stretch & Bobbito 1-19-1997 (w/ Mad Skillz)

Here is Mad Skillz stopping by Stretch & Bobbito's Boogie & the Barber show on Hot 97. This was 3 days after the now classic freestyle session with Artifacts, Crash Crew, Mad Skillz, Lonnie B and Danjamouf (which gets a spin near the end of this show). Peace to Stretch, Bobbito & Greg T.

Grand Puba - Hip Hop Lives

Unreleased Grand Puba from 1995, I guess scrapped from the '2000' LP. He gets on some Delfonics sh*t and breaks it down real smooth. Pulled this one off a Future Flavas tape.

Mobb Deep - Shook Ones (Remix)

This track got remixed a lot, not sure who did this one.
Pulled it off a 1995 Stretch and Bob tape.

Juggaknots Demos

Caught a few unreleased Juggaknots tracks while going through some Stretch & Bobbito shows. I'm sure these have been circulated somewhere, but in case you haven't heard, here they go. I'm not sure of the titles, or if they have been released or not, but I know these weren't featured on their first Fondle Em' LP.

DJ Kaos - Phatspot Break Mix

Peace to DJ Kaos, doing his thing with a phatspot break mix..

..also peep a snippet from this unreleased Redman track from Kaos' tape collection, that I believe not even Redman himself has a copy of. This sounds like a hungry, pre-record deal Redman.

A Lover Was Born

Here's a treat from Lee Dorsey called 'A Lover was Born.' You may recognize this as the sample for Lord Finesse's 'Strictly for the Ladies.' As far as I know, this song only appears on this 7" and is not included on any of his albums, with the exception of later compilations. The track is produced and arranged by Allen Toussaint, so it definitely has that funky Meters vibe.

Shortie No Mas

This one came out on Track Team Records in 2002, but sounds like it could have been a bonus track from 1994's 'Buhloone Mind State' LP, where Shortie No Mas first made an appearance. I remember her being on 'In the woods,' and doing some adlibs on 'Ego Trippin.' She also did some work on the first Roots LP. This track here was produced by the Beatminerz, and uses a mellow Cal Tjader or MJQ sample. Just sold this on discogs figured I'd share the rip, Enjoy..

Peace to P. Original and DJ Kaos. Was sitting in on some tape diggin/transferring going down and was hearing some incredible stuff, random Artifacts studio cuts, demos, unreleased beats, 20+ year old mixtapes, craziness. A lot of this material will be appearing soon on Kaos' blog, so stay tuned.

DJ Souljah - Spice of Life

I caught this at the Sound Library back in 2003. I don't know much about DJ Souljah, but he put together a nice mix with this 'Spice of Life' CD. It's a break mix featuring samples from artists that had records out during that year. I see there is also a part two of this, if anyone has that please send my way!

Mr. Voodoo - Crhyme Life (Demo)

Here's a Mr. Voodoo demo that I know is floating around out there in poor sound quality, this rip is a bit better. The song is called 'Chryme Life' and it differs from the 12" version on the B Side of Lyrical Tactics Pt. 2. I recorded this from New York Live, 89.1, sometime in September of 1996 when Natural Elements producer Charlemegne visited the show and played some unreleased material. 'Do Your Thing' was another unreleased gem that I recorded the same night, that you can find here.
