DJ Eclipse Interview

DJ Eclipse...
Fat Beats, Rock Steady Crew, Halftime Radio, Rap is Outta Control, Wild Pitch Records, Non-Phixion, Heavy Metal Kings need I say more??

Few DJ's can match Eclipse's dedication to the music and longevity in the game. His work at Fat Beats (the go-to source for underground NY hip hop since 1994), and his work on numerous radio shows, has brought him world-wide recognition, but has kept him down to earth and in touch with his fans. I took the opportunity to interview DJ Eclipse about his work over the years. For those of you who aren't familiar with DJ Eclipse, this track should explain his steez...

Ce-Style (Total Pack) Interview

One of the perks of doing a blog like this is when I'll occasionally get in touch with the artists featured here. Sometimes the artists lose their own material and it's always a treat to be able to give it back to them. I knew acrhiving ridiculous amounts of cassettes over the years would come in handy one day.

I recently got in contact with Ce-Style from the group Total Pack and took the opportunity to do an interview. You may have heard Total Pack on DJ Eclipse's 'Wild Pitch Blends" mixtape, Stretch Armstrong's Lessons 1&2 (where he was featured with The Korp), or perhaps you heard them from one of their many WBAU or WKCR guest appearances. Ce Style shed some light on what went down with Total Pack and the current projects he is working on under his new name, Corey Drumz.

DJ Slyce Interview

has been a prominent figure on the DJ battle scene for over a decade, consistently coming up with new routines, sick juggles, and crazy shit to make you wonder where he gets his ideas from. After winning the US DMC finals in 1997 and taking 3rd in the 1999 US finals, Slyce has made a return to the DMC battles this year, taking first place in both the east coast finals and US finals. Right now, we have the pleasure of hearing from this year's champion before he heads out to London for the 2008 World DMC Finals.

DJ Citizen Kane Interview

Those who hear the name 'Citizen Kane' may think of Orson Welles' Oscar winning film, but DJ's, record collectors, and NY party goers, know the name Citizen (Dennis) Kane from the incredible 'Selects 001' and 'Greatest Part' mixes he’s done along with Chairman Mao, the more recent 'Adult Section' CD, and the various parties he DJ's in NY. When seeing him spin live he's guaranteed to play stuff to keep a crowd moving. He's been holding down a spot at APT for nearly 8 years now and still going.

You may also remember Citizen Kane as one of the buyers/seller at A1 records back in the day. I'd imagine DJing for as long as he has and working as a record buyer/seller at A1, one would come up on a nice amount of gems, and indeed every mix I've heard from Citizen Kane has had some tasty rare treats as well as all around good tunes. Citizen Kane has great taste in music and plenty of it.

I'm surprised to see this music blog here reaching different countries, but what's even more surprising is when the site reaches the artists I feature on it. Dennis sent over an e-mail after hearing about the set I posted from his appearance on the CM Famalam show. He was nice enough to offer a track list for the set he spun, and take time to answer these few questions I had.

Mike Van Olden Interview

It took some time for Mike to get back to me about this interview, but I'm glad he finally took the time out because he definitely dropped some knowledge for me. All my fellow diggers/producers get a real treat with this one. For those who don't know, Mike Van Olden aka Fishguhlish is the creator of the Drum Crazy series (fat beats/drum loops for DJ's and producers) distributed by Ubiquity records. He's done quite a lot more than just this series as you will see, under a variety of different aliases (Molasses, MikeTheMusicGuy, Starchild Excalibur). He has also worked on projects with two of my personal favorite producers, Prince Paul and Dan The Automator.
