Here is a throwback Tim Westwood Capital Rap Show courtesy of Dave in Essex. This show from April 1990 has an interview with De La Soul (38:00) explaining the meaning of their name and the nature of the group. At the (45:00) mark you'll hear a live/studio performance with De La Soul over some Wild Style beats and a Kool & The Gang break. Enjoy!
This was the 5th Platton DJ's on WSOU (Seton hall college radio, East Orange NJ) from April of 1999 on a show called 'over ya head.' Line up features Neil Armstrong, Kuttin Kandi, Daddy Dog and Rholi Rho. The tape closes with 3 or four tracks from an XL show.

This is Foul Play from Washington, a group that had a deal on Wild Pitch shortly before the label closed. This song 'Booyah' had like three or four different versions, all with Roc on the hook, but this one alone has both Ruc and Roc with verses. Pretty sure this was a Doo Wop promo according to Eclipse.
New York Live WNYU 89.1 during December of 1996. The first half of the
show had some unreleased demos from Last Emporer, Nas, and Natural
Elements, I'm pretty sure that was Cien Smooth and TO Sweet subbing in
for Mayhem and Sunset. Then the tape had a freestyle session with Eddie Brock and L Fudge, then Half A Mill, then Choclair, then AK Skills. I'm guessing this must have the highlights from 2 or 3 different shows.

One of my favorite Halftime Shows right here, from July of 2000. I used to kill this tape. The show features DJ sets from Spictacular, J-Smoke, DJ Infamous, and DJ A-Trak (of the Allies) and a freestyle session with Camron, McGruff and a little bit of Jim Jones, along with DJ Riz on the mix. I think DJ AV was co-hosting but I didn't get much of the talking. This is a Stretch & Bobbito pause edit special from summer 1995. The tape starts with Raekwon, and then Stretch plays 'Hey Mr. Mr.' (an unreleased track from Kool G Rap), which ended up getting him suspended from the station the following week. For those unfamiliar, the track was a
T-Ray production that G Rap used for a really grimy track about beating
up his (fictional) girlfriend. It was recorded during the 4,5,6 sessions, pretty
sure Stretch pressed up the white label.

Following that there's a lengthy freestyle session with Phantasm from Cella Dwellas along with Craig G, over maybe 5 different instrumentals. The tape caught the entire krunch time session until the show ended, with Lord Sear and Benni B also in the studio.

I was actually in the studio this night along with P Original (R.I.P.). This show is a banger, lot of classic freestyles from years past. Miss the Halftime show.

The Lord Sear Special was a short lived show after the CM Famalam Show ended, and before the Squeeze Radio Show began. Lord Sear was the host and J-Love was the DJ, although I remember DJ Evil Dee and Boogie Blind coming up a few times. Pretty sure this tape is from 2003. Yo, what's up, Lord Sear, Bobbito, exclusive SON!
Here's another Big L rarity for all you L fans and purists. This is the 12" version of Big L's 'Holdin it Down' with a different hook and different lineup. Stan Spit is replaced by Party Arty, and Miss Jones' singing is taken off this version. Instead, Pete Rock cuts for the hook. Far better version, IMO, and makes much more sense to have Party Artie (RIP) on this one. Even though they made a video for this track, neither version was released as an official 12", both of these version are promo only.
Big shouts to Hectic Eclectic for this one. DJ Monk One comes through with an all reggae mix on WBAI 99.5 from sometime in 2002. My reggae knowledge is low, so anyone who can make a track list, or identify any of these tracks at all, big up^ (all I could get was double barrel and linval thompson)
I was under the impression that a typical 'record store day' release was something like a Pearl Jam box set, so I was really surprised to see this. It's a few early Big L tracks packaged on a vinyl EP put out by Sony. It just came out two months ago, and I'm not seeing many sites mentioning it. I believe these were studio recorded sessions that didn't make the cut for his first LP. These were put out on a Japanese bootleg EP that sells for dumb loot, so this is a blessing to have it available for a lower price and with album artwork. I just bought a copy online for around $20 and hoping for good sound quality. Anyone out there who already has a copy, and can fill me in, drop a comment..

Also it's dope that these were given an official release, although it's limited to 3,000 pieces. From what I understood, his father was putting a wrench in some of his material coming out, as well as the documentary that was in the works. Is that finally getting released as well?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8774467659556372292.post-3453444660757668562017-07-11T02:23:00.000-04:002017-07-11T02:24:25.671-04:00Eminem & Royce - Bad Meets Evil (Demo Version)Here's another treat from P-Love, left over from some of the stuff he sent me a while back.
